Pictured Above - OPM Newquay Sevens
In Memory of Jamie (The Colonel) Hutton 1985 - 2008
Team Mates of Plymouth Royal Marine Jamie Hutton, tragically killed in a military training exercise, paid tribute to him during the recent rugby sevens tournament at Newquay. Members of the team all wore Jamies number – two – plus his name on their shirts.
Jamie Hutton, who was one of OPMs first team promotion squad from Devon One to the Cornwall/Devon League last season, died when his Land Rover overturned at Lulworth firing range, near Weymouth, Dorset. The team, despite the tragedy, decided to go ahead with playing in the tournament.
Windsor Vets Tournament
After a stunning opening try by (younger than he looks but older than he acts) Flame haired hooker Simon Adams Galleons suffered two major setbacks when blind-side Mark Turner broke his arm followed by youngster (to the club) Andy Paice tearing his achilles, always a weak spot for your classical hero types. Despite these losses OPM Galleons pressed on to beat Windsor Jesters and might have beaten Basingstoke had they not lost a bit of momentum in the first half, and had to play a dangerous and ultimately unnsuccessful game of catch-up in the second-half. The team struggled on but went down bravely to Marlow in the plate semi.
A quiet night was had by all.
OPMs invited to play Old Queenians in celebration of Jamie Hutton.
Jamie's school buddy and great mate Matthew Lee has invited OPMs to field a club team to play old boys of Queens Taunton (The Old Queenians!) on November 16. The match will ko at 11 00hrs at Queens and be folowed by a buffet. Jamie's family will be there. It is important that the club is well represented at this event and all those who played or trained with Jamie are given the chance to play in the team. We will organise a bus if needed to leave college at 8.30.
Please contact Chris Pascoe if you would like to play or travel to Taunton by bus.
