Welcome to OPM Rugby season 2017/18 in which we look to gain promotion back into Devon One as our main aim for the year. After finishing third in the league last year and being pipped to the post in the last few games, the emphasis this year is on a good league and cup run for all competitions. We were also thrilled to win some silverware last season by winning the Pedrick Cup in a pulsating match to overcome Plym Vic. A wonderful achievement.
The 1st XV are in Devon Two and following a successful season in the Plymouth Combination for our 2nd XV, we continue to support this league with further clubs having joined this season. Howard Turner continues in his role of Club Coach with Hayley our Club Physio and Cookie & Atco, First Team Managers for the season. We are also welcoming Rick Orkney into the coaching set up and continue to add personnel before the season to ensure we have a great set up for the players. Emphasis will continue on player improvements as well and fun, teamwork and enjoyment on and off the field.
OPM Juniors continue to develop within their age groups and are building strength in numbers all of the time. O2 Touch rugby has also now moved to both Monday and Wednesday nights and continues to be a fantastic option for those less interested in contact and more interested in fun, fitness and a social atmosphere.
Thank you to all of our sponsors for this season, ongoing and newly confirmed, and we hope to see everyone at the numerous social events that will be provided throughout the season. I would request that if you would like to get involved, no matter how big or small a role, you speak to the Executive Committee or myself.
This year, we will also be making major developments at Elburton. The social area will be undergoing a full refurbishment and we will be improving the lighting and other playing facilities in order to ensure that it is a welcoming and professional environment. As always, we look ahead to this season with positivity and making sure that the OPM Family continues from strength to strength.
See you at the bar. Cheers, Matt Glastonbury
