2006/07 – another fine year at the social end of rugby life and as enjoyable as ever!
Once again the Nomads (OPM 3rds) provided the nursery ground for young talented players going up such as Kieran Sly, Adam Gorman, Danny Kelly and Dan Mullen - all of who emerged from the OPM colts set-up. The Nomads team also provided a welcome slow-down for club icons coming back down after years at the top - Laslo Nosky, Sean Cooke and Giles Philips in particular showed their class and experience in many games with the Nomads this year and afterwards in the bar!
As far as results were concerned, things started badly with 6 straight defeats against tough opposition including Ivybridge Vets, Torquay, DHSOBs and the old enemy OPOs. However, from mid October we got our act together and marched through to Christmas and beyond with only the occasional close defeat. The highlight of the season was 3 thumping wins on the trot against Civil Service and DSHOBs (twice!).
In the end, this good form resulted in a winning season for the Nomads with 13 wins and 11 defeats. However for the Nomad regulars such as Kev Windsor, John Cassidy, Simon Scott, Hugh Treanor, Rob Searle, Rob Wright and many others, its not the winning that’s important it’s more about playing rugby with your mates … Same time next year lads????
